My nephew with BSc Bio-Technology graduation (2012 passed out), was selected by an India based Bio-Technology company which was recently taken over by a MNC. He was told by the HR that the selected employees should give a bond for 3 years with a starting salary of Rs.6000/- an annual increment of Rs.1500/- and the bond breaking chargers are Rs.2,00,000/-.
I was a little concerned about the growth potential and thought of talking to the HR as my nephew being a fresh graduate and more over from a village background.
To my surprise the HR was not in any intention to talk to any other person than the employee and more over without giving proper guidance about the job roles and the career progression he was insisting him to give his decision otherwise he will proceed to the next available selection.
Being my nephew was referred by an existing employee; the HR immediately called him to say that he doesn’t have time to talk to all and forced him to give the decision about his reference immediately. The internal employee who referred my nephew then called us, when I was trying to tell him about what is wrong in expecting to talk I got a surprised view about HR form him is that “you know right all the HRs are like that”. He said that nothing to worry about the opportunity and the growth potential as he is working with the same organization more than 4 years, moreover after a while HR will not have any prominence further.
Later I asked my nephew to call the HR to convey sorry and to express his willingness to join. Then one another surprise… the HR said it seems “Good… you said your uncle wanted to speak to me, if we don’t pay you after joining, will your uncle pay you the salary?”
Few questions disturbed my thoughts being a fellow HR
Are we making the positive culture or breaking?
Why hasn’t the HR tried talking to me within the same time he has spent calling and talking to the internal employee?
This reminds me of a funny scene from a telugu movie where Brahmanandam plays a Manager Role, he once gets a call on his mobile, he tell the caller that he is very busy and gives his secretary number to the caller asking him to call the secretary to find about his time.
Instead of worrying and blaming I have reminded myself of the practice I was willing to follow…
